A member of the Republican Chamber introduced a resolution on Thursday to amend the US Constitution in order to allow President Donald Trump – and any other future president – to be elected in a third term in the White House.
Trump “has proven to be the only figure in modern history capable of turning our nation’s demolition and turning America into greatness, and it must be given the time needed to fulfill that purpose,” rep said . Andy Ogles, Tennessee lawmaker who presented the resolution.
“It is necessary for us to offer President Trump any resource needed to correct the catastrophic course set by the Biden administration,” Ogles said in a statement.
“He is committed to restoring the Republic and saving our country, and we, as lawmakers and as states, must do everything in our power to support it,” said Ogles, a strong conservative serving the mandate his second in the room.
“I am proposing a change in the Constitution to review the restrictions imposed by the 22nd change on presidential conditions,” he added.
Ogles’s mass came three days after Trump swore for a second term, not consecutive-becoming only the second US president to realize that feat.
And the resolution comes two months after Rep. Dan Goldman, a New York Democrat, introduced a home resolution that “reaffirms the twenty-second change for 78-year-old Trump.
A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a comment request on the resolution.
The 22nd change of the Constitution is partially stated, “no person will be elected to the President’s office more than twice.”
Ogles resolution seeks to review this to read, “” No one will be elected to the president’s office more than three times … “
The original change also states that, “no person who held the post of president, or acted as president, for more than two years of a mandate, which no other president was elected will be elected to the President’s office more than once. “
In his statement on Thursday, Ogles said the resolution he was presenting “would allow President Trump to serve three terms, ensuring that we can keep the bold leadership that our nation needs so desperately.”
Proposed in 1947 and ratified in 1951, the 22nd change was author to prevent a repetition of President Franklin Roosevelt’s unprecedented elections for four in office terms.
To date, Roosevelt is the only president who has ever been elected in more than two terms. He died in 1945, less than 90 days after his fourth inauguration.
Trump is open to
During his political career, Trump has constantly hinted at his willingness to serve more than two in office terms.
“I doubt that I will not run again, unless you say, ‘he is as good as we have to understand something else,” “Trump is reported to have withdrawn to shelter Republicans during a private meeting in November, shortly after he defeated former Democratic Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaking to the members of the National Pushkes Association in May, Trump said, ” I do not know, will we be considered three-afflicted or two-fold? Are we three-Afatsh or two-year-old if we win? ”
Trump’s opening for a third term does not come as a surprise to some people who know it.
Former Fox News Journalist Geraldo Rivera, who has been friendly with Trump for decades in New York, predicted in December that Trump and his allies would soon turn their attention to the 22nd change.

Other ways to stay in power
Amending the Constitution is not the only way Trump can stay in power after its current mandate is over.
“Although the 22nd change forbids Trump from being elected president again, does not stop him from serving as president beyond January 20, 2029,” wrote Philip Klinkner, a government professor at Hamilton College, in a recent article in the conversation.
“The reason for this is that the 22nd change only forbids someone from being” resolved “more than twice,” clinker wrote. “It does not say anything about someone who becomes president in some way other than being elected to the office.”
Clinker wrote that a hypothetical scenario would be for Trump to run for vice president in 2028, and have Vice President JD Vance headed at the top of the ticket, president.
“If you are elected, Vance could then resign, making President Trump again,” the clinker wrote. “But Vance should not resign so that a Vice President Trump can exercise the power of the presidency.
The 25th change of the Constitution states that if a president states that ‘he is unable to perform the powers and duties of the office … Such powers and duties will be dismissed by the vice president as president.’ “
Another scenario that clinker imagined is that Trump encourages a family member to run and win, the White House. After being elected, they would serve more than one president of the figures, while Trump made the main decisions.
